Abstrakt: Atherosclerosis is a major problem of public health. However, it can be prevented by a systematic intake of personalized probiotic supplements with cardioprotective activity. This study aimed to develop personalized consortia of lactic acid bacteria that exhibit probiotic and anti-atherosclerotic properties. Based on literature review, we selected probiotic strains (study objects) with cardioprotective potential, namely L. acidophilus B-3190, L. plantarum B-1615, L. fermentum B-7574, S. thermophiles B-3142, B. bifidum AC-1579, and B. animalis AC-1560. Then, we assessed their antimicrobial activity against pathogenic and opportunistic strains, as well as resistance to antibiotics and gastrointestinal conditions. To implement a personalized approach, we tested the biocompatibility between the selected strains and a volunteer's (a 54-year-old male suffering from atherosclerosis and gastritis) gastrointestinal microbiota. The strains' cardioprotective potential was determined by measuring their antioxidant activity and ability to reduce cholesterol levels in vitro. Standard methods were used to conduct the analyses. According to the results, L. acidophilus B-3190, L. plantarum B-1615, and L. fermentum B-7574 were most effective against H. pylori, while B. bifidum AC-1579 showed the greatest ability to lower cholesterol. Finally, we developed three consortia, namely: 1) L. acidophilus B-3190, L. plantarum B-1615, B. bifidum AC-1579, and B. animalis AC-1560; 2) L. plantarum B-1615, L. fermentum B-7574, B. bifidum AC-1579, and B. animalis AC-1560; and 3) L. fermentum B-7574, S. thermophiles B-3142, and B. animalis AC-1560. Their probiotic and anti-atherosclerotic activity will be assessed at the next stage of research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
