The article focuses on the study of medieval and early modern cosmetic and health practices, utilizing untapped handwritten documentation like recipe books or "books of secrets." These documents offer insights into body care techniques that, through Experimental Archaeology, are practically examined for their efficacy. The research explores the significance of these manuscripts for understanding scientific history, especially concerning technical knowledge transmitted through vernacularization and its dissemination across medieval Europe, emphasizing their relevance for investigating various scientific or technical aspects. Furthermore, it highlights the scarcity of historical studies dedicated to the contents of these manuscripts, which encompass a considerable number of recipes. |
