A recent report from Vanderbilt University Medical Center highlights the significant barrier that transportation costs pose to quality care for hematologic malignancy patients, particularly those from minority and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. The study, conducted at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York, surveyed patients with newly diagnosed hematologic malignancies or those undergoing cellular therapy. The results showed that nearly 50% of patients in both groups expressed concerns about the accessibility and cost of transportation to oncology appointments. The study suggests that incorporating more tele-visits may be a potential solution to address this issue. [Extracted from the article] |
