A recent study conducted by researchers at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa provides updated information on the prevalence and incidence of light chain (AL) amyloidosis in the United States. The study utilized a large-scale electronic health record (EHR) database to analyze data from over 1,400 AL patients. The findings indicate a significant increase in the diagnosed prevalence and incidence of AL between 2017 and 2021, suggesting improved detection and management of the disease. The study also highlights the high prevalence of comorbidities, particularly those related to cardiac function, emphasizing the need for more therapeutic options and earlier diagnosis.
