Abstrakt: | A recent study conducted by the University of Southern California (USC) analyzed the impact of a heart transplant policy change on patients awaiting heart-kidney transplantation. The policy change aimed to improve waitlist risk stratification and increase sharing for high-acuity patients. The study found that the policy change did not have any added benefit on waitlist outcomes for heart-kidney patients compared to heart-only patients. Additionally, heart-kidney recipients in the post-policy era experienced worse one-year survival rates compared to those in the pre-policy era. The study suggests that the policy change had a detrimental effect on post-transplant survival in heart-kidney patients. [Extracted from the article] |
