A study conducted at Penn State College of Medicine aimed to determine if phosphocreatine (PCr) could decrease troponin I concentration after cardiac surgery. The study included 120 patients undergoing valve repair/replacement under cardiopulmonary bypass. The treatment group received PCr while the control group received a placebo. The study found no significant difference in troponin I concentration or other clinical outcomes between the two groups. The researchers concluded that PCr administration is safe but does not have a beneficial effect on clinical outcomes after surgery. [Extracted from the article] |
