Abstrakt: A recent report from New York Presbyterian Hospital provides new insights into the treatment of craniosynostosis, a condition characterized by the premature fusion of the skull bones in children. The report discusses the use of distraction osteogenesis, a technique that increases intracranial volume by gradually expanding the posterior vault of the skull. The researchers propose a novel design for a fully absorbable cranial distractor system using external magnetic distraction control, which could eliminate the need for a second surgery to remove the hardware. The application of this technology in low- and middle-income countries could improve access to care and treatment options for patients with syndromic synostosis. [Extracted from the article]
