A recent study conducted by the University of Iowa explored the use of comprehensive geriatric assessments (CGAs) in the care of older cancer survivors. The study involved interviews with primary care providers and oncologists to understand the barriers and facilitators of CGA use and identify training and support needs for implementation. The findings revealed that while providers acknowledged the usefulness of CGAs, they faced challenges in administering them to all patients. Barriers included limited staff capacity, provider inexperience, and misaligned institutional priorities. The study concluded that improving the systematic use of CGAs is crucial for maximizing the health of older cancer survivors. [Extracted from the article] |
