A recent case report from the Ministry of Health discusses an unusual presentation of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) that mimicked a stroke. The report describes a 58-year-old man with polycythemia who initially presented with weakness in his right leg and arm, leading to quadriparesis. Despite being initially treated for a stroke, the patient's condition worsened. Further examination revealed normal neurological findings, blood tests, and brain MRI, but cerebrospinal fluid analysis showed a pattern consistent with GBS. The patient received intravenous immunoglobulin treatment, which significantly improved his symptoms. This case highlights the importance of considering atypical presentations of GBS and the need for prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment. [Extracted from the article] |
