Abstrakt: Retailers are facing challenges in meeting consumer and regulatory demands for more sustainable packaging. To reach their sustainability targets, retailers need to increase the use of recycled content, reduce virgin-plastic usage, and transition to reusable, recyclable, or compostable materials. However, the demand for postconsumer recycled plastic packaging is expected to triple by 2030, while the supply is only expected to double. To overcome these challenges, retailers can take four strategic actions: assess and optimize their packaging portfolio, integrate sustainability principles into the packaging design process, establish partnerships along the value chain, and build new internal capabilities.
