Abstrakt: Finding the optimal location and power capacity of traction substations is a problem in the design of DC electric power supply systems for trains. The proposed method uses evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) to find the solution. By using two optimization steps: firstly, finding the Pareto optimal solutions with NSGA-ii method, and secondly, selecting from the Pareto optimal solutions by using higher-level information to obtain the best solution. The method is used to optimize 15 kilometer (km) railway power supply systems with three or four traction substations. The load sharing between the traction substations is almost the same as the minimum power capacity. Therefore, the single best solution is obtained, showing that the minimum solution requirements for the location and power capacity of the traction substations are met. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
