Abstrakt: This article presents a study conducted in India that examined taste threshold variations in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the predialysis and dialysis stages. The study found that taste perception differed significantly between the two stages, with greater impairment in the dialysis group. The findings suggest that screening for taste dysfunction in CKD could help identify individual taste preferences and guide nutritional supplementation and measures to increase food intake. The article highlights the importance of addressing taste impairment in CKD to improve adherence to renal diet recommendations and reduce complications and mortality rates. However, the study does not provide an explanation for the molecular mechanism or cause of taste impairment in CKD. [Extracted from the article]
