Aluminum metal matrix composites (AMCs) have received considerable attention in aerospace and automobile applications because of high strength-to-density ratios and ease of fabrication. In addition to these composites exhibit a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Al-7075 is the base metal selected for corrosion inhibition studies. AMCs are prepared by reinforcement of particulates such as SiCp and graphite by stir casting method. Composites are prepared by adding 2, 4 wt % of SiCp particulates, and hybrid composite with an equal amount of SiCp and Gr. Base metal alloy without adding any reinforcement is also casted in the same manner for comparison. In the present research work the inhibitive action of Epoxy-Polypyrrole composite on the corrosion behavior of Al-7075 alloy/SiCp/Gr, composites have been studied in 0.1M HCl medium using the Tafel extrapolation technique and A.C Impedance method. Polarization curves and Complex plane plots indicate that the inhibition efficiency is enhanced in Al-7075 alloy when compared to composites. The inhibition efficiencies obtained by Tafel extrapolation and A.C Impedance techniques are in good agreement. The inhibition efficiency is in the following order 99.89%>98.63%>97.84%>96.85% for 0%, 2%, 4% and Hybrid composites. SEM images confirm that the rate of inhibition is more in Al-7075 alloy.
