Further studies on the occurrence of group A and group B Coxsackie viruses have resulted in the association of group B infections with Bornholm disease in Sydney and Tasmania. The differences between group A and group B viruses have been shown to be marked. Both agents apparently have wide distribution in the more populated areas of Australia. The techniques of isolating and typing the viruses are described. Five serological types of group A virus and one type of group B virus were isolated in Sydney during the 1950-1951 epidemic of poliomyelitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
