A recent study conducted by researchers from the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences in India has found a link between a calcified false tendon and sudden cardiac death in a young adult. False tendons are cord-like structures found in the left ventricle of the heart that do not attach to the mitral valve leaflets. While false tendons are generally benign, they can be associated with functional murmurs and electrocardiographic abnormalities, and in some cases, can cause ventricular arrhythmias. The study emphasizes the importance of using two-dimensional echocardiography and cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to detect false tendons and evaluate cardiac murmurs and arrhythmias.
