A recent study conducted in Birmingham, United Kingdom compared the outcomes of laparoscopic repair of perforated peptic ulcers (PPU) with and without omental patch closure. The study included four observational studies with a total of 438 patients. The results showed that the operative time was significantly shorter in the group without omental patch closure. There were no significant differences in postoperative complications, re-operation, mortality, or length of hospital stay between the two groups. The study suggests that the no-omental patch approach may be a more favorable choice due to the shorter operative time. However, further well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings. [Extracted from the article] |
