A study conducted by researchers at the Technical University Munich (TU Munich) in Germany examined the correlation between CT attenuation (a measure of tissue density) and necrosis (cell death) in hepatic metastases of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The study included 36 patients who underwent CT-guided hepatic biopsies, and the researchers found a significant inverse-linear correlation between CT attenuation and the fraction of necrosis. They also discovered that patients with a higher fraction of necrosis in their metastases had a significantly shorter overall survival. The findings suggest that CT scans can estimate tumor necrosis in PDAC metastases and that liver metastatic necrosis may serve as a prognostic biomarker in PDAC. [Extracted from the article] |
