A recent study conducted by researchers at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona explored the clinical dimensions of primary progressive aphasia (PPA), specifically focusing on the non-fluent variant of the disorder. The study aimed to determine whether primary progressive apraxia of speech (PPAOS) and progressive agrammatic aphasia (PAA) are distinct syndromic entities or part of the same clinical spectrum. The researchers analyzed speech, language, and disease severity features in a cohort of patients with motor speech impairment and/or agrammatism. They found that PPAOS and PAA constitute a clinical continuum rather than separate entities. The study highlights the need for new biological markers and consensus on terminology and clinical classification in PPA. [Extracted from the article] |
