A recent review paper from the Department of Forestry highlights the importance of non-wood forest products (NWFPs) in contributing to household income in Sudan. The study found that NWFPs account for over 50% of Sudanese household income, with certain tree species playing a significant role in rural income generation. However, many of these species are classified as endangered. The research recommends teaching sustainable harvesting and value addition practices to rural communities to enhance household income.
