A study conducted at the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires in Argentina examined the outcomes of kidney transplantation in children with a vesicostomy, a surgical procedure that diverts urine from the bladder. The researchers found that early kidney transplantation into a vesicostomy was a safe and effective strategy for children with end-stage renal disease and lower urinary tract anomalies. The study showed a low rate of urinary tract infections and no graft loss due to infectious complications. The findings suggest that this approach allows for careful planning and better timing for urinary tract reconstruction without delaying kidney transplantation. [Extracted from the article] |
