Researchers at the Izmir Institute of Technology in Turkey have developed a hybrid microfluidic platform called mDACS that can sort cancer cells from white blood cells based on their density. The platform uses the magnetic levitation technique to separate cells using magnetic, gravitational, and drag forces. The researchers demonstrated the platform's effectiveness by sorting rare cancer cells from serum samples with a sorting efficiency of 70% at a fast-processing speed. This label-free approach shows promise for rapid and cost-effective sorting of circulating tumor cells, aiding in the diagnosis and prognosis of cancer. [Extracted from the article] |
