Abstrakt: A qualitative study conducted by the Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands explored the role of healthcare and social welfare services in the lives of Dutch parents caring for a child with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities at home. The study found that parents heavily relied on these services but often experienced a mismatch between their needs and what was provided. They felt overburdened and constrained in living according to their own beliefs and values. The researchers recommended working with integrated family case managers, improving access to equipment and services, and creating high-quality facilities for childcare and respite to enable parents to have more autonomy in constructing their family life.
