Abstrakt: A recent report discusses research findings on antimicrobials conducted by researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. The study focuses on the synthesis and antimicrobial activity of aminoalkyl resveratrol derivatives inspired by cationic peptides. The researchers found that these molecules displayed modest activity against aerobically growing bacteria but showed good antimicrobial activity against anaerobic bacteria, suggesting specificity towards this bacterial group. The study also found that the molecules had no cross-resistance with traditional antibiotics and showed synergistic relations with existing antibiotics against Gram-negative pathogens. However, some cytotoxicity was observed. The researchers concluded that the balance between positively charged moieties and hydrophobicity is important for improving antimicrobial activity and could be used to design new drugs.
