Abstrakt: This article from Reactions Weekly describes two cases of methaemoglobinaemia, a condition where the blood is unable to carry oxygen effectively, in women who were undergoing treatment with prilocaine as anesthesia. In the first case, a 54-year-old woman developed cyanosis and respiratory distress after receiving microwave ablation for breast cancer. In the second case, a 69-year-old woman experienced cyanosis and tachypnea after a biliary stent operation for cholangiocarcinomas. Both patients received treatment for methaemoglobinaemia and showed improvement. It is important for healthcare providers to be aware of this potential side effect when using prilocaine as anesthesia. [Extracted from the article]
