This work included the preparation of compounds containing 2-pyrone rings starting from self-condensation of two molecules of malic acid to obtain coumalic acid MS1, which reacts first with thionyl chloride and then with hydrazine to obtain acid hydrazide MS2, then the latter reacting with substituted benzaldehyde to prepare acyl hydrazones MS3-MS12. Azetidine-2-one compounds MS13-MS18 prepared from the reaction of chloroacetyl chloride with M6, M7, M8, and M12. The compositions of the prepared compounds were confirmed by measuring UV, infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry of proton and carbon 13. The bacterial and fungal activity of some compounds evaluated and showed high to moderate inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus, and no inhibition was shown against Candida albicans.
