Synthesis and characterization of a new azo dye and study of its photodegradation on the surface of cobalt oxide as a catalyst.

Abstrakt: The new synthesized azo dye(3-((4-hydroxyphenyl) diazenyl)-4,5-dimethyl-1-phenyl-1,5-dihydro-2H-pyrrol-2-one)[N1] was prepared by the reaction of (4,5-dimethyl-2-oxo-1-phenyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-3-diazonium) with (2,6-dimethylphenol). The synthesis of this dye was confirmed by FTIR, 1HNMR and 13CNMR and the photocatalytic degradation of it has been investigated using cobalt oxide as a /catalyst and 250 watts UV lamp. Two experiments were carried out at different conditions such as the amount of the used catalyst and the effect of pH of the reaction mixture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
