Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the University of Oulu in Finland has developed a polarization-based optical interference approach for differentiating between benign and malignant tumors, specifically focusing on prostate adenocarcinoma. The approach involves evaluating the local contrast of polarized interference patterns created by a superposition of a reference laser beam and light transmitted through the tissue sample. The researchers found that the polarization patterns obtained from histological sections of prostate tumor biopsy samples, when processed with statistical moments, demonstrated a high level of accuracy (>90%) in assessing the differentiation of adenocarcinoma. The study was funded by various organizations, including the European Union and the Research Council of Finland. [Extracted from the article]
