This article discusses the synthesis of hybrid molecules that contain both γ-butyrolactone and γ-butyrolactam motifs, which are important in pharmaceutical science. The authors developed a method for regioselective difunctionalization of deconjugated butyrolactones using α-amide enones as Michael acceptors, resulting in high yields and excellent diastereoselectivity.
