A recent study conducted at the San Gallicano Dermatological Institute in Rome, Italy, explored the use of electrochemotherapy (ECT) in the treatment of advanced skin cancers in elderly and frail patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The researchers found that ECT was a safe and effective procedure, resulting in a general improvement in health status for the patients. The study highlighted the importance of rapid intervention, minimum hospitalization, and postoperative management with telemedicine in treating advanced oncologic lesions in fragile patients, especially in a pandemic scenario. The findings suggest that ECT can be a viable option for treating skin cancer in elderly and high-risk patients. [Extracted from the article] |
