New research from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea explores the role of the lateral hypothalamus (LH) and lateral habenula (LHb) in cocaine-induced psychomotor responses. The study found that the LH glutamatergic projection to the LHb plays an active role in modulating cocaine-induced locomotor activity and dopamine release. Activation of the LH suppressed cocaine-induced locomotion, while inhibition of the LH enhanced its effects. These findings provide insight into the neural circuitry involved in drug-seeking behaviors and may have implications for understanding addiction. [Extracted from the article] |
