A study conducted by researchers at Brunel University London aimed to provide an international consensus on reducing the failure of peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVC). PIVC failure is a significant issue, with approximately 1 billion catheters failing annually worldwide, leading to complications and avoidable costs. The study involved a panel of experts and patients who assessed the relevance and feasibility of clinical practice guideline recommendations. The study resulted in 30 agreed-upon recommendations across six domains, providing valuable insights for implementing strategies to reduce PIVC failure. The research included substantial representation from clinical experts, academic experts, and patient and public expertise, enhancing the reliability of the findings. [Extracted from the article] |
