Abstrakt: This article examines the use of gestural components in sign languages, specifically focusing on German Sign Language (DGS). The authors argue that the analysis of idiomatic gestures and ideophones in spoken languages can also be applied to gestural components in sign languages. They discuss the concept of idiomatic signs in sign languages, which are similar to ideophones in spoken languages and have a figurative expressive meaning component. The article highlights the need for further empirical studies to determine the extent to which iconic enrichments are present in different types of idiomatic signs and classifiers.
