Abstrakt: Blue toe syndrome is a severe cutaneous manifestation of cholesterol embolization syndrome (CES). CES can be spontaneous or iatrogenic, with approximately 80% of cases being iatrogenic. A 61-year-old man presented with bilateral chromatic toe aberrations and discomfort, and a skin biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of CES. The patient experienced symptom improvement after 3 weeks. CES is characterized by atherosclerotic plaque disintegration, resulting in the dissemination of cholesterol crystals into peripheral arteries. Blue toe syndrome is an important cutaneous finding for CES and can indicate other conditions, necessitating a thorough differential diagnosis. Treatment options for CES are limited, and the prognosis for medically induced CES is poor. The treatment and prognosis for spontaneous CES remain unknown. The importance of smoking cessation and blood pressure control was emphasized to the patient to prevent recurrence. [Extracted from the article]
