This article discusses a case study of a pregnant woman from The Gambia who developed Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) in the United States. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding the patient's cultural beliefs and seeking effective communication in healthcare. It also explores the challenges in diagnosing and treating WE, as well as the potential long-term effects of the condition. The article briefly mentions other neurologic conditions that should be considered in the differential diagnosis for altered mental status in pregnancy.
