Abstrakt: Breast MRI has been shown to be more effective than mammography in detecting breast cancer at an early stage. Studies have demonstrated its superiority in finding small breast cancers, leading to the recommendation of breast MRI by the American Cancer Society for certain high-risk groups. Despite its proven efficacy, the adoption of breast MRI as a screening method has been slow due to factors such as availability and cost. However, cost-effectiveness analyses have refuted the claim that breast MRI is too expensive, and abbreviated ultrafast breast MRI protocols have increased its availability. While other imaging techniques like contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) may be alternatives to breast MRI, they have not been tested in a screening setting and do not appear to be as effective. In conclusion, breast MRI is a proven and affordable method for breast cancer screening, while further research is needed for other imaging techniques like CEM. [Extracted from the article]
