Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Reina Sofia University Hospital in Cordoba, Spain, examined the right ventricular function in long-term survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (CLS). The study found that RV systolic dysfunction was present in 16.7% of CLS individuals, as measured by RV free-wall strain (RVFWS), compared to 2.2 to 4.4% with conventional measurements. The study also identified modifiable cardiovascular risk factors such as obesity and smoking that were independently associated with reduced RVFWS. These findings highlight the importance of assessing RV function, including RVFWS, in the cardiac surveillance of long-term survivors of childhood leukemia. [Extracted from the article]
