A recent report from the Medical University of Vienna discusses the management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in twin pregnancies. The study aimed to identify factors that could predict the need for pharmacotherapy in twin pregnancies complicated by GDM. The researchers found that glucose levels during an oral glucose test (OGTT) and certain clinical risk factors, such as pre-pregnancy BMI, multiparity, GDM in a previous pregnancy, and assisted reproduction, were associated with the requirement for insulin therapy. These findings suggest that OGTT glucose measures and clinical risk factors could be useful for risk stratification in mothers with GDM and twin pregnancies. [Extracted from the article] |
