A new report from Benemerita University Autonoma of Puebla in Mexico discusses the pathophysiology of Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) strains, which have been linked to severe diarrhea outbreaks worldwide and are commonly resistant to antibiotics. The report focuses on the AggR protein, a master regulator that activates the main virulence genes in EAEC. The AggR protein positively affects most EAEC virulence genes by interacting with the RNA polymerase. This mini-review article provides an overview of the virulence factors controlled by the AggR regulator in EAEC. [Extracted from the article] |
