A recent study conducted by Sichuan University in China examined the incidence and determinants of sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy (STDR) in a diverse multi-ethnic population. The study found that individuals with no retinopathy at baseline had a lower risk of STDR compared to those with non-STDR in one or both eyes. Additionally, black and South Asian individuals had higher STDR hazards than white individuals. The study suggests that screening programs and clinical practices can stratify the risk of STDR development by using basic demographic characteristics. [Extracted from the article] |
