A recent study conducted by investigators at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, examined the impact of implementing paediatric early warning systems (PEWS) on mortality rates due to clinical deterioration in children with cancer in resource-limited hospitals across Latin America. The study involved 32 paediatric oncology centres from 11 countries and found that PEWS implementation was associated with a reduction in clinical deterioration event mortality. These findings support the use of PEWS as an effective intervention to improve survival rates for children with cancer globally. The study was funded by the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Conquer Cancer Foundation. [Extracted from the article] |
