Abstrakt: A study conducted by researchers at the Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo explores the effects of caloric restriction on the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The researchers found that reducing glucose concentration in the culture medium increased the activity of the 20S proteasome, a cellular protein degradation system. They also discovered that specific phosphorylation patterns in the proteasome were associated with the increased activity. The study suggests that the changes in proteasome activity were not accompanied by significant structural alterations, but rather involved allosteric activation of the catalytic site. This research provides insights into the mechanisms underlying the benefits of caloric restriction on lifespan and physiological parameters in various organisms. [Extracted from the article]
