A new study conducted by the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre (BMC) explores the attitudes, motivations, and concerns of the general public and scientists in Latvia towards citizen science research projects in the field of biomedicine. Citizen science involves research carried out by citizens in collaboration with scientists using scientifically developed methods. The study found that the general public is more interested in individual and societal benefits and specific participation aspects, such as filming or co-funding, while scientists see the potential contribution of citizen science in additional data collection and potential financial support. The scientists also expressed concerns about data quality, legal issues, and coordination communication. This research sheds light on the different expectations and perspectives of the general public and scientists regarding citizen science in Latvia. [Extracted from the article] |
