In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a pandemic. Schools were closed and became remote, workplaces were locked down, and physical distancing policies separated families and friends. Worldwide data show that COVID-19 affected our lives in ways that were difficult to predict. As the Gender Committee of the Physics Argentine Association (Subcomisión de Género, SG-AFA), we conducted a survey with a gender-based perspective of how the pandemic and lockdown affected the scientific community in Argentina. Researchers, teachers, students and fellows were asked about several aspects. People self-identifying as women reported that their time for research was reduced by a factor of three because of the COVID-19 pandemic; men experienced a reduction in time by a factor of two.
