This article evaluates the decline in wool production in Romania and discusses the wool production and quality parameters of local sheep breeds and hybrids. The study reveals a wide variability in productivity levels and wool fineness among the breeds analyzed. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding genetic and environmental factors that affect wool quality and quantity, and proposes measures to improve wool production in Romania. It also discusses the importance of efficient selection and husbandry measures to minimize genetic defects in wool and provides classification criteria for different sheep breeds based on wool quality parameters.
