A patent application has been published online for a method of detecting Alzheimer's disease using a circulating-free mRNA profiling assay. The method involves quantifying levels of cell-free messenger RNA in a biological sample, such as blood, and processing the levels using a machine learning classifier. The inventors suggest that this non-invasive test could provide accessible and early detection of Alzheimer's disease. The method can also be used to monitor the progression of the disease and includes additional steps such as brain imaging and mental acuity testing. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the method are reported to be high. [Extracted from the article] |
