A study conducted at MGM Medical College in Madhya Pradesh, India, investigated the outbreak of atypical wound infections following percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) surgery. The study compared different cleaning and sterilization methods and found that manual cleaning with high-level disinfection was not effective against atypical mycobacterial infections. However, a combination of enzymatic cleaning and high-level disinfection with glutaraldehyde or ethylene oxide sterilization effectively minimized these infections. The study concluded that proper cleaning and sterilization techniques are crucial in preventing wound infections after PCNL surgery. [Extracted from the article] |
