A recent study conducted by researchers at Diponegoro University in Semarang, Indonesia, explored the impact of caring for children with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) on parental stress levels. CAH is a condition that disrupts cortisol biosynthesis and can lead to genital ambiguity in females. The study found that parents of children with genital ambiguity experienced higher levels of stress compared to parents of children without genital ambiguity. Additionally, fathers and parents of recently diagnosed children had lower levels of serotonin, while parents of recently diagnosed children had higher levels of cortisol. The study also revealed that anxiety was more common than depression or stress among the parents. [Extracted from the article] |
