A recent study conducted by the University of Verona examined functional motor disorders (FMD) in elderly individuals. FMD is a neurological condition that commonly affects younger adults but can also manifest in older individuals. The study found that among the 410 patients analyzed, 8.2% experienced elderly-onset FMD, with a mean age of onset at 70.9 years. The most common phenotype observed was tremor, followed by gait disorders, weakness, and dystonia. The study also highlighted the importance of accurately diagnosing FMD in the elderly, as it is crucial for managing symptoms and addressing neurological comorbidities. [Extracted from the article] |
