Abstrakt: The Race Across America (RAAM) is an ultra-endurance cycling event that spans approximately 4,800 kilometers and features continuous racing without set stages. The event poses unique challenges to the mental health of participants, particularly in relation to sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can have harmful psychological and psychiatric effects, including hallucinations and impaired executive functioning. To address these concerns, the authors propose regulatory policies such as promoting mental health awareness, providing on-hand mental health support, and considering mandatory sleep breaks. However, financial constraints and societal attitudes towards mental health may present barriers to implementation. [Extracted from the article]
