The article presents a discussion related to pacemaker implantation. Pacemaker implantations began at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1959 when all were implanted by a thoracic surgeon through an anterolateral thoractomy. It is tempting for people to do pacemaker implantations, because many pacemaker companies provide the technical services which encourage small hospitals to permit pacemaker surgery. Sometimes they get very bad results. A pacemaker implantation is not a simple operation. It requires training and good technical skills, especially in implanting endocardial leads. |
